A Camden County teacher was arrested Tuesday after being accused of inappropriate conduct involving a student.

Officials announced that all Ware County Schools and the Central Office will remain closed at least through Tuesday, Oct. 1 due to Hurricane Helene.

Guardian 2022 was supported by the following agencies and organizations, Camden County Emergency Management Agency, Georgia Emergency Management Agency, Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Camden County Fire Rescue, Kingsland Police and Fire Departments, St. Marys Police and Fire Departments, and Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.

After beginning the school year with a mask mandate in place, Camden County Schools will make the wearing of masks optional starting Wednesday, the school district announced.

Bus driver shortages are affecting schools across the country, including in Camden County.

CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. – The mother of a Georgia middle school student is speaking out, saying her child has been repeatedly bullied on school grounds. Webb said the resource officer at Camden County Middle School won’t speak with her or Cason. Camden County Schools released a statement that reads:“Out of respect for student privacy, Camden County Schools does not publicly offer comment on any student-specific questions or concerns. Camden County Schools is committed to meeting the diverse needs of our 9,000 students in a safe, equitable, and nurturing learning environment. Webb said she and the child’s mother are working with the Camden County Sheriff’s Office to file a report.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As Tropical Storm Eta crept towards the west coast on Wednesday afternoon, some school districts in Northeast Florida made the decision to close schools on Thursday. Tropical Storm Eta is expected to impact Duval County around the time students get out of school. Alachua CountyThe school district in Alachua County was the first in Northeast Florida to announce schools would be closed on Thursday. Nearby school districts in Marion, Suwannee and Gilchrist counties also decided to close schools on Thursday. Bradford CountyThe Bradford County School District confirmed that all schools will be closed Thursday due to the potential concerns from Tropical Storm Eta.

CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. Camden County Schools says it does not have a policy directing staff members to report if theyve been exposed to COVID-19, but it does advise staff to report exposures to their school principal. In fact, one parent took her child out of the Camden County school system because of that. Kris Jackson said her son was going to attend St. Marys Middle School in Camden County, but the districts reopening plan changed her mind. The district later reversed its mask policy, making masks a requirement, but didnt say whether the reversal was connected to positive cases. Jackson sent News4Jax emails that she received from the school system, stating students whose doctors say classroom learning is not recommended can apply for online learning.

CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. Camden County Schools said it is actively watching the track for Hurricane Isaias, which could be off Georgias coastline on Monday -- just as schools are set to reopen in the county. The district said it is partnering with the National Weather Service and the county emergency management agency to monitor Isaias, which was upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane at midnight Friday. The storm was moving swiftly through the Caribbean on Friday and could pass by Camden County on Monday morning -- causing potential headaches just as the district is planning to reopen schools for in-person learning. In addition to sending out messages through SchoolMessenger, the district will also post updates on its website at www.camden.k12.ga.us and on the Camden County Schools Facebook page. Due to the threat of Hurricane Isaias, Camden County Schools says it is delaying its school start date until Aug. 4, a day after it was originally scheduled to begin. According to a news release, the decision was out of an abundance of caution. Employees will still report to work on Aug. 3 for an additional day of pre-planning. The news release reads in part:While the impact of the hurricane on our county is expected to be minimal, delaying school for one day will allow our maintenance team members to survey our school properties to ensure they are free of debris and can safely reopen and school busses are able to safely access the more remote parts of our county.Camden County Schools says additional updates will be posted on its website and on the Camden County Schools Facebook page.

KINGSLAND, Ga. – A man who was a bus driver for Camden County Schools for 20 years has died from complications of COVID-19, friends told News4Jax. Lalonee Gibbs, 44, contracted COVID-19 several weeks ago and died in a hospital, friends said. Police, fire rescue personnel and dozens of cars, led by Camden County school buses and a Greyhound bus, drove past the home of Gibbs’ mother. A Camden County Schools spokesperson released the following statement regarding Gibbs’ death to News4Jax:“We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Lalonee Gibbs. According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, the death was the first from COVID-19 in Camden County.

KINGSLAND, Ga. - A school bus fight in Camden County was caught on camera, and parents told News4Jax it was another case of bullying. Camden County Schools said it investigated the incident, which happened Oct. 16 after the bus left Camden County Middle School. Following the investigation, two students received consequences for their involvement in the incident," said Phoebe Floyd, Camden County Schools communications specialist. According to a Camden County Schools database, there has been one case of bullying reported in the district so far during the 2019-20 school year. According to Camden County Schools, there are more than 1,000 students enrolled in middle schools.

CAMDEN COUNTY, Fla. – Several questions are perplexing investigators about the theft of three school buses in Camden County. How do thieves steal three school buses? When school officials returned this week after the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, they found three buses missing from the Camden County Schools bus yard. School officials said they have another theory about what the crooks have in mind. Camden County school officials said they have not had this happen before, although they said it has happened in neighboring counties.

CAMDEN COUNTY, Fla. – Investigators in southeast Georgia are on the lookout for three stolen school buses. The buses were stolen last weekend from the Camden County Schools bus yard, investigators said. The three buses are yellow with white roofs and have Camden County Schools logos on them. Investigators said they're worth a combined $300,000. The Kingsland Police Department, Camden County Sheriff's Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Department of Homeland Security are investigating.
