Jacksonville City Council honors retired WJXT employees who served over 20 years

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The city of Jacksonville recognized former WJXT employees who have shaped the community through more than two decades of dedication to local news.

The recognition was during Tuesday’s city council meeting.

News4JAX retired employees recognized at city council meeting for over 20 years of service (WJXT)

City council members Ken Amaro and Michael Boylan presented framed resolutions to the following 12 employees who have served over 20 years to Channel 4:

  • Operation Manager - Nancy Tillman
  • Assistant Operation Manager - Dave Hall
  • Operations Manager - Al Valentine
  • Director - Dee Dee Lang
  • Operations Engineer - John Cassenti
  • Sports Producer - Kevin Talley
  • Multi-Platform Producer - Jay Pennington
  • Assignment Manager - Frank Powers
  • Reporter - Jim Piggott
  • Photographer - Randy Sell
  • Photographer - Mark Clanton

“Together, this group of recent WJXT retirees have provided almost 300 years of service in an endeavor to keep the public informed,” a city council member said.

Jim Piggott would frequent city hall as a News4JAX reporter, and as a recipient on the other side of the podium, he spoke at the event.

“Thank you for this honor. It breaks my heart not to be here anymore, but it fills my heart to be standing here, talking to you on this end, and in this way,” he said.

The honorees retired from the station in July 2024. Their lasting impact is remembered.
