JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars continue to clean out players from the previous regime, releasing safety Darnell Savage on Tuesday afternoon.

Savage signed a three-year contract worth $21.75 million in 2024 under head coach Doug Pederson and general manager Trent Baalke. Only one player remains on the team from that class in what has quickly shaped up to be one of the worst free agent hauls in franchise history.

Ronald Darby was cut this offseason and subsequently retired. Center Mitch Morse retired. Linebacker Trevis Gipson was traded last year. Receivers Gabe Davis and Devin Duvernay were both cut last spring. Only Arik Armstead, who had an underwhelming first year with the Jaguars, remains from that class.

His spot on the roster appeared in limbo during camp, but Savage made the 53-man roster and played sparingly the first two games. Andrew Wingard and Eric Murray are the starting safeties, and Jacksonville drafted Rayuan Lane III and Caleb Ransaw last spring.

Savage had $12.5 million guaranteed at signing. His release carries a dead cap charge of more than $4 million, according to Over the Cap.
