Varsity 4 News4JAX Super 10 rankings

Rank, (previous), school, record last year, classification

1. (1) Bolles (1-0, Class 2A)

Coaches Super 10 ranking: 1.

Last week: beat Monarch, 34-15. This week: vs. Trinity Christian (0-1).

Why they’re here: Bolles looked excellent in a season-opening rout on the road against Monarch. Bolles is 8-6 on the field all time against the Conquerors, including a 4-1 mark under head coach Matt Toblin.

2. (2) Raines (0-0, Class 3A)

Coaches Super 10 ranking: 2.

Last week: Off, game canceled. This week: vs. Sandalwood (0-1), 6:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: The Vikings have a delayed start after their Week 1 cancellation with Miami Central. They’ll be more than ready for this one.

3. (3) St. Augustine (1-0, Class 4A)

Coaches Super 10 ranking: 5.

Last week: beat Palatka, 41-0. This week: vs. Menendez (1-0).

Why they’re here: The Yellow Jackets hit cruise control against the Panthers. Their biggest in-county rival is on tap next. St. Augustine holds a 22-1 record all-time against the Falcons.

4. (4) Oakleaf (1-0, Class 6A)

Coaches Super 10 ranking: 3.

Last week: beat Riverside, 23-14. This week: vs. Orange Park (1-0).

Why they’re here: Knights had a difficult opening half but found their offense to pull away from a pesky Riverside. County rivalry game against the Raiders up next.

5. (5) Mandarin (1-0, Class 6A)

Coaches Super 10 ranking: 4.

Last week: beat Creekside, 42-20. This week: vs. Atlantic Coast (1-0), 6:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: The Mustangs got things going before halftime and kept it up against Creekside. Battle for the Principal’s Cup is on deck.

6. (6) Bradford (1-0, Class 2A)

Coaches Super 10 ranking: 7.

Last week: beat Baker County, 24-0. This week: at Dunnellon (0-1), 7:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: A romp in the Blood Rivalry series and the familiar rock solid defense leading the way. The Tornadoes are another area team that has eyes on a deep playoff run once again.

7. (NR) Nease (1-0, Class 6A)

Coaches Super 10 ranking: 6.

Last week: beat Ponte Vedra, 38-28. This week: vs. Creekside (0-1).

Why they’re here: The Panthers were in during the preseason Super 10 and out after a kickoff classic loss to Trinity Christian. Well, they’re right back in after a dominant win over rival Ponte Vedra, their third straight win in the series.

8. (9) White (1-0, Class 4A)

Coaches Super 10 ranking: 8.

Last week: beat Trinity Christian, 45-28. This week: Off.

Why they’re here: The Commanders looked really good last week in their first win over Trinity Christian. Could the Commanders legitimately push for a nine- or 10-win regular season? They may be good enough to do it.

9. (NR) Columbia (1-0, Class 4A)

Coaches Super 10 ranking: 9.

Last week: beat Suwannee, 42-6. This week: vs. Coffee, Ga. (1-1), 7:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: The Tigers move into the Super 10, a place they’ve been here and there. Head coach Brian Allen’s Tigers kept their mastery of Suwannee going with a rout to keep the Old Oaken Bucket. Far more difficult challenge up this week against Georgia perennial power Coffee.

10. (NR) University Christian (1-0, Class 1A)

Coaches Super 10 ranking: 10.

Last week: beat Newberry, 47-14. This week: at Bishop Kenny (0-0).

Why they’re here: In terms of one of the most impressive wins of Week 1, UC notched it. The Christians thrashed Newberry without much challenge. This was a Newberry team that trampled UC by 24 a year ago and reached the regional finals. Great start for head coach David Penland III and the Christians.
