JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The opening week of the high school football season is in the books and three losses by Super 10 teams means a shakeup is in order.
Ninth-ranked Ed White pulled away from No. 8 Trinity Christian, beating the Conquerors 45-28 for the first time after three straight losses. The Commanders (1-0) had come close twice before, falling 21-18 last year and 48-40 in 2022.

No. 7 Beachside, playing without quarterback Eddie Jordan, went on the road and fell flat in a 20-14 loss to Class 1A Orlando Christian Prep.
And No. 10 Ponte Vedra couldn’t end stop its losing streak to rival Nease in a 38-28 loss.
No. 3 St. Augustine romped to a 41-0 win over Palatka in the state’s second-longest running rivalry. Those teams first played in 1922. The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series 60-43-3.
Mandarin super sophomore Brysen Wright caught a touchdown pass and returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown to end the half as No. 5 Mandarin pulled away from Creekside 42-20.
On Thursday night, Varsity 4 Super 10 No. 1 Bolles got two rushing touchowns apiece from Xander Edwards and Jaden Weatherly to cruise by Monarch 34-15 in the Broward National Football Showcase at Dillard High School. Weatherly also threw a touchdown to Clemson commit Naeem Burroughs and the rout was on.
In rivalry clashes, Columbia won its 13th straight game over Suwannee in a 42-6 rout to keep the Old Oaken Bucket. Fleming Island topped Clay 42-20 in a Clay County showdown to up its lead in the series to 14-6, and four consecutive wins in the rivalry. And No. 6 Bradford flexed its muscle on defense with a 24-0 win over Baker County in the annual Blood Rivalry clash.
The predictions tally
It was a mostly good opening week for the predictions, with a 30-8 record. That did include some bad picks, including predicting wins for Keystone Heights (blowout loss to Interlachen), Bishop Snyder (routed by Stanton) and Newberry (crushed by University Christian). I whiffed on three Super 10 games, picking wins for Ponte Vedra (loss to Nease), Beachside (loss to Orlando Christian Prep) and Trinity Christian (loss to White).
