Varsity 4 News4JAX Super 10 rankings
Rank, school, record last year, classification
1. Bolles (10-2, Class 2A)
This week: vs. Monarch, at Broward Football Showcase, 8 p.m.
Why they’re here: Yes, it’s preseason, but the Bulldogs absolutely tore through Creekside in the kickoff classic. Bolles put up 34 points in a half and ran smoothly behind new starting quarterback Jaden Weatherly. The offensive line is excellent, so expect to see big rushing games from Xander Edwards.
2. Raines (13-1, Class 3A)
This week: Off.
Why they’re here: With an unfortunate cancellation of a Week 1 headliner against Miami Central, the Vikings have a week off. They’ll kick things off on Aug. 29 against Sandalwood. Raines, led by reigning Varsity 4 offensive player of the year Timothy Cole, is a very good pick to get back to the Class 3A state championship game.
3. St. Augustine (11-2, Class 4A)
This week: vs. Palatka.
Why they’re here: Led by super receiver Somourian Wingo, this Yellow Jackets team should put some numbers up on the scoreboard. Their annual rivalry game with Palatka leads things off.
4. Oakleaf (9-4, Class 6A)
This week: at Riverside, 6:30 p.m.
Why they’re here: QB Jack McKissock will push for the top offensive accolades in the area, and he’s got a big-time receiver target in Trace Burney. A good opener right out of the gate in the Backyard.
5. Mandarin (7-4, Class 6A)
This week: at Creekside.
Why they’re here: The Mustangs have deep playoff expectations. With QB Knox Annis a year older and more comfortable and throwing to the No. 1-ranked player in the country in 2028 (Brysen Wright), Mandarin appears ready to put an injury-marred 2024 in the rearview.
6. Bradford (10-2, Class 2A)
This week: vs. Baker County, 7:30 p.m.
Why they’re here: The Tornadoes had a solid outing in the preseason classic against a monster in Cocoa. Head coach Jamie Rodgers knows a thing or two about defense.
7. Beachside (7-4, Class 5A)
This week: at Orlando Christian Prep.
Why they’re here: This is the year to make big gains. The Barracudas are stocked with three-year varsity players, including QB Eddie Jordan. Their two big tests in the first month are St. Johns County games against Menendez (Sept. 5) and Ponte Vedra (Sept. 12).
8. Trinity Christian (10-4, Class 1A)
This week: vs. (9) White.
Why they’re here: The Conquerors made a run to the state semifinals last year with most of the same team that they have this season. Expect big things from Trinity, including a tough test in the opener against the Commanders.
9. White (8-4, Class 4A)
This week: at (8) Trinity Christian.
Why they’re here: Much like Trinity, the Commanders are far more experienced this year than they were in last year’s eight-win season. They’re going to be very good this season for head coach Lawrence Johnson.
10. Ponte Vedra (9-3, Class 5A)
This week: vs. Nease.
Why they’re here: I swapped out the Sharks for Nease this week, and that debate will be settled in Week 1. Ponte Vedra has numerous graduation losses on offense, but it should be tough on the defensive side of the ball. Columbia is another team who could push for the Super 10 early.
