JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It’s the ninth day of training camp, and now the clock flips to game week. And the countdown is on for the first preseason game, which is also the only home preseason game of the year for the Jaguars. (Sidenote: we will be Tealgating live from the Slab before each home game this season. Saturday’s preseason opener of Tealgate will be streamed from 5-6 p.m. on News4JAX.com).
This practice was a little scaled down, no pads, but some good competition. Watching Tyson Campbell and Brian Thomas Jr. go at it was a thing of beauty. Campbell looks as good as ever, and those two are making each other work. While that matchup is the one that drew the most attention, it is tough not to watch Travis Hunter.

Training camp coverage
Hunter’s highs of practice were high. He put Jourdan Lewis in a blender at one point during 1 on 1’s and scored a nice touchdown during a team period. The low for him was a pass from Trevor Lawrence that went off his hands and right into Andrew Wingard’s hands. The stat sheet will show that interception on Lawrence, but a tip drill play like that, where Hunter got both hands on it, is more on the rookie. But Hunter’s hands are nowhere near in question. Just more of a one-off type of play.
QB tracker
Trevor Lawrence: 11 for 18, four TDs (Hunter, Brenton Strange, Thomas, Hunter Long) and an INT (Wingard).

John Wolford: 4 for 5.
Seth Henigan: 5 for 6.
RB tracker
Travis Etienne: four carries all from Lawrence.
Tank Bigsby: five carries (three came with Lawrence, and he had one with Mullens and Wolford).

Notebook
- An injury update: Johnny Mundt has returned to practice and is considered limited. Jalen McLeod (lower body) is week-to-week.
- The team honored former head coach and general manager Tom Coughlin before Sunday’s practice. Coughlin was honored by the team for his induction to the Pride of the Jaguars last year.
- Jacksonville placed OL Dennis Daley on the reserve/retired list.
- Kiser came up with a nice pick-6 off of Mullens during a team drill late in practice. Maybe Kiser’s best play of camp so far.
- Antonio Johnson is one of the guys who has been rotating at safety. He forced a fumble late in practice, punching the ball out to stop the play. Johnson told me after practice that he feels comfortable in this defense.
- Saw a few three-safety looks for the first time in camp. It could be something to watch for. Safety is one of the deeper positions on the team. That may be part of the plan that might help them keep an extra guy or 2 there.
- In base defense, Yasir Abdullah is running alongside Devin Lloyd and Foye Oluokun. Have seen this consistently throughout camp, looks like Adullah might be that third backer in base.
- Tyler Lacy is taking advantage of some run with the No. 1 defense. Lacy came up with a sack during team drills. He has been paired with Josh Hines-Allen, Travon Walker and DaVon Hamilton for most of came with Arik Armstead and Maason Smith sidelined.
- Walker continues to have some good days. Walker came up with another sack during practice. He harassed Daley during the team scrimmage to the point where Daley retired. Not saying Walker pushed him into retirement, just saying, well, Walker had like three sacks with Daley trying to block him on Friday night. You do the math. Basically, the Jags have two really good edges who will be racing to the QB this season.
