JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you’re ready for some football, you’re in luck -- so are the Jaguars!
The team will play a scrimmage game on Friday at EverBank Stadium, and it’s free for fans.
Initially set for 5:30 p.m., the on-field entertainment at the stadium has been pushed back to 6 p.m. because of changes to the team’s schedule, a Jaguars spokesperson said.
That means parking lots will now open at 4 p.m., Gates 1 and 4 will open at 5 p.m., the National Anthem and other on-field elements will start at 6 p.m. and the team’s Mock Game will begin around 7 p.m.
“The scoreboard will be running, and the video board will be operating. You will see some contact, but it will model a scrimmage more than it will game, and then we will get ready for the real thing on Aug. 9,” said Jaguars Sales and Marketing Vice President Chris Gargani.
Of course, one of the big talkers about Friday’s scrimmage -- not only in Jacksonville but nationally-- is rookie sensation Travis Hunter. He is expected to play both offense and defense on Friday.
News4JAX sports anchor Jamal St. Cyr said all eyes are going to be on Hunter and the coaches.
“We are going to see how they handle this. This is a thing that the NFL has not seen before with a player that is trying to go both ways,” St. Cyr said. “He has been practicing on offense and defense during training camp. I honestly don’t know how the coaching staff wants to handle the scrimmage.”
Another storyline, St. Cyr said, is seeing how Trevor Lawrence is doing with weapons around him and a new coach.
“They should obviously watch Trevor Lawrence very closely. I think this thing is going to run through and go how the quarterback goes. Trevor Lawrence is the guy. This is probably the most favorable situation, at least in my opinion, that Trevor has been in, in his time as a pro. Between coaching staff, the supporting cast around him, this is the best situation,” St. Cyr said.
