JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Seven practices through training camp and still managing to keep count somehow. Thursday was a lighter day of work, not quite a full walk-through but not as intense as the early week practices.
Maybe trying to keep the guys fresh as they get ready for the stadium scrimmage on Friday. That may just be hopeful thinking since Grant Udinski said “it’s like a practice for us in terms of the way guys are approaching it.”

But we shall see what sort of show they put on at the stadium on Friday.
No matter what type of scrimmage or practice it is, all eyes will be glued to what Travis Hunter does out there on the field. Thursday was a defensive day for Hunter. The last full defensive day Hunter had was spectacular, and on the News4JAGs podcast, my colleague Justin Barney and I both said he was our defensive player of the day.
This practice was not nearly as sharp for Hunter. In his only rep against Lawrence and the first team offense, Hunter got beat down the field by Parker Washington for a big gain. Hunter did bounce back late in practice with a pair of PBU’s to end the day.

Notebook
- Cole Van Lanen (shoulder) is out for training camp.
- Caleb Ransaw (lower body) is week-to-week.
- Jourdan Lewis is the leader the Jags need in their secondary. Jarrian Jones told us that Lewis spent hours with him going through DBs around the NFL that have played in this scheme to help him get ready.
- It was a Darnell Savage day in the safety rotation. He spent the day running with Eric Murray.
- Tyler Lacy is getting some more run with the 1’s at DT. This is while Arik Armstead is still sidelined during team drills. He wasn’t on the field for the team run on Thursday.
- Ja’Quinden Jackson continues to turn heads at practice. He will be interesting to watch during the preseason to see if it translates to the game field.
- With Johhny Mundt and Hunter Long both sidelined with injuries, Patrick Herbert is moving up the depth chart a little bit. The injury situation in the tight end room is definitely worth watching.
