JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars are bringing in some pass rushing reinforcements from a player they know well.
Jacksonville signed Dawuane Smoot on Tuesday, bringing back the defensive end after a one-year stint with the Bills. The Jaguars also signed receiver Trenton Irwin and released receiver David White.

The return of Smoot is a nice perk for the Jaguars and also a good storyline. Smoot was a third-round pick of Jacksonville in 2017 and spent seven productive years here. Smoot had 23.5 sacks in that span and forced five fumbles. That sack total ranks 10th in Jacksonville history.
Smoot and his wife, Aumari, made Jacksonville their home and started an early-learning center called Elsie Academy. That couple made international news in 2021 when Aumari went into labor at home. With no time to get to the birthing center, Dawuane delivered their daughter, Ahlani in the living room.
Smoot, 30, will likely compete for a handful of reps as a change-of-pace player at end. He had 1.5 sacks and 12 tackles last year in Buffalo.
Irwin will join the competition at receiver as the Jaguars look to fill out the position behind Brian Thomas Jr., Travis Hunter and Dyami Brown. Irwin has five touchdown catches and 601 yards in 41 career games with the Bengals.
The move spelled the end of White’s time with Jacksonville. The Westside High School graduate was trying to make the roster of his hometown team after he spent last year on the injured list following knee surgery.
