Jaguars won’t pick up 5th-year option on Devin Lloyd, reports

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars will not pick up the fifth-year option on linebacker Devin Lloyd, setting up for this season for the former first-round pick to potentially be his last in Jacksonville, according to a report from ESPN.

The move isn’t unexpected. Jacksonville picked up edge rusher Travon Walker’s fifth-year option earlier this month and didn’t pick up Lloyd’s at the same time. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Wednesday that the Jaguars elected not to pick it up.

Teams have until May 1 to pick up options on 2022 first-round picks.

All first-round picks have standard four-year contracts that can be extended by a year when teams elect to pick up the option. That comes with a hefty pay raise, too. Lloyd shined in spurts as a rookie, including three interceptions and 115 tackles. ESPN even had Lloyd as a contender for defensive rookie of the year honors in 2022.
