Rank, Previous, School, Record, Classification
1. (1) Trinity Christian (20-3, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Beachside, Bishop Snyder, Clay, Columbia, Creekside, Florida Christian, Lincoln, Lowndes (Ga.), Marist (Ga.), Newberry, North Marion (twice), Oakleaf, Providence, Regis Jesuit (Colo.), Stony Brook (NY), Tocoi Creek, University Christian.
Notable: The Conquerors have won nine straight, including a pair of games in the prestigious National High School Invitational in Cary, NC. To compete in these big time national tournaments, pitching has to be top-shelf, and Trinity has delivered. Aaron Watson and Ethan Wheeler both carded complete games in wins over Stony Brook and Regis Jesuit. The Conquerors are in the semifinals of that tournament on Friday. I’m not going to say Trinity is a lock to win a state title, but the Conquerors have the pitching staff and the offense to do it.
2. (3) Bishop Snyder (19-5 Class 2A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Bartram Trail, Bolles, Clay, Columbia, Florida Christian, Neumann, Ponte Vedra, Sandalwood, Suwannee, Tocoi Creek, University Christian.
Notable: The Cardinals have turned on the jets. They’ve won 11 straight games, including Ws over Bartram Trail (3-1) and Bolles (10-9) since our last Super 6. Tripp Hannah is hitting .400. Cody Boshell (.339, 5 HR, 13 RBI) has been on an absolute bashing spree, belting four homers since our last update. He had back-to-back two-homer games against Trinity Catholic and Middleburg.
3. (4) St. Johns Country Day (14-7, Class 1A)
Quality win: Baldwin, Clay, Lowndes (Ga.), Maclay, Middleburg, Neumann, North Oconee (Ga.), Oakleaf, Valdosta (Ga.), Suwannee.
Notable: The defending 1A state champs went 3-1 since our last Super 6, beating Creekside (3-2), North Oconee (7-2) and Eagle’s View (12-0). The loss was to Georgia power Parkview (11-6). TJ Sunderhaus (.412, 5 HR, 19 RBI) belted a pair of homers since our last update. Preston Cole (.397, 5 HR, 17 RBI), Brayden Harris (.337, 13 RBI) and Hunter Rodgers (.301, 4 HR, 18 RBI) lead the way for the Spartans.
4. (2) Creekside (16-8, Class 7A)
Quality wins: Bolles, Clay, Columbia, Hagerty, Hillgove (Ga.), Lincoln, Lowndes (Ga.), North Marion, Providence, Spruce Creek, St. Joseph, Windermere.
Notable: The Knights finally cooled off with a 3-2 loss to St. Johns Country Day. Not a bad game at all. Creekside has been playing a tough, tough schedule and facing some of the best private schools, too. They’re back in action Friday at DeLand. Connor Balazic (.493, 22 RBI, 4 HR) leads the Knights.
5. (6) Episcopal (19-5, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Benedictine, Christ’s Church, First Coast, Fletcher, Newberry, St. Joseph, Sandalwood
Notable: The Eagles aren’t going to have the easiest path in what could be the state’s most wicked district, 3-2A. The Eagles face Bolles on April 14 in the district opener, with a win sending them on to a semifinal against Trinity Christian. This is a good team and it added wins over Nease and Menendez since our last Super 6.
6. (5) Providence (15-9, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Benedictine, Bishop Snyder, Bolles, Clarksville (Tenn.), Clay, Episcopal, John Carroll Catholic, Palatka, Ponte Vedra, Richmond Hill (Ga.), Tocoi Creek, University Christian.
Notable: A really difficult choice here this week. Providence has been the most difficult team in the area to figure out. The upside is that only four losses have been to local teams (Creekside, Bartram Trail, Trinity and St. Johns CD). They have lost to some heavyweights, including an 11-1 rout against 24-1 Buchholz this week. But the schedule Providence has played is far and away better than any other area team but Trinity Christian. They open play in perhaps the state’s most difficult district, 3-2A, and Bishop Snyder on Tuesday.
