1. (3) Baker County (13-2-1, Class 4A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Columbia, Fort White, Hilliard, Keystone Heights (twice), Middleburg, Oakleaf, Paxon, West Nassau.
Notable: The Wildcats had an excellent week of work. They beat Middleburg (2-0), Paxon (4-0) and then Baldwin (5-4 in 8 innings) Baleigh Shields (.481, 3 HR), Nasia Green (.347) and Chloe Johnson (.326) are leading the way for Baker County.
2. (1) Atlantic Coast (15-2, Class 7A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Bishop Kenny, Creekside, Episcopal, Fleming Island, Fletcher, Paxon
Notable: The Stingrays saw their 15-game winning streak come to an end with a 3-1 loss to Ponte Vedra. They did beat previously ranked Paxon (3-2) last week. They’ve got Bishop Kenny up next on Thursday before the Gateway Conference tournament next week. Expect the Stingrays to slug it out with Baldwin for the conference title. Stella Lynton (.436), Skye Deans (.432), Emma Cano (.375) and Maggie Moody (.370) are leading the way for the Stingrays.
3. (2) Baldwin (10-4, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Baker County, Bartram Trail, Columbia, Mandarin, Paxon, Trinity Catholic.
Notable: The Indians went 1-1 since our last Super 6, beating a quality Columbia (5-3) and then losing to Baker County (5-4) in eight innings. Kendall North (.548, 14 RBI, 2 HR), Makaila Fry (.472, 19 RBI) and Jazmine Ramos-Merced (.409, 5 HR, 23 RBI) are leading the way among the regulars for Baldwin. The Indians have Nease on Thursday before the Gateway Conference tournament.
4. (NR) Fort White (11-4, Rural)
Quality wins: Branford, Columbia, Santa Fe, Trenton, Williston
Notable: This was such a difficult spot this week. I considered red-hot Episcopal, winners of seven straight, as well as keeping Ponte Vedra or Paxon in. Even though Ponte Vedra beat previous No. 1 Atlantic Coast, they got mercy ruled in games against Episcopal and Nease. Episcopal’s schedule has been a bit lean. Paxon had a case, but has dropped back-to-back games without a win before the rankings cutoff. So, the Indians are back in the Super 6 for the second time this year. They’ve got a win over 13-1 Santa Fe, currently the highest-ranked W by a local team. Senior Kadence Compton (.447, 3 HR) leads at the plate and in the circle (8-3, 77.2 IP, 112 Ks, 0.72 ERA).
5. (T6) Creekside (11-5, Class 7A)
Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Beachside, Fleming Island, Forest, Mandarin, Menendez, Middleburg, Trinity Catholic, West Nassau.
Notable: Tough showing in the Doc4Life tournament, with losses to quality teams in Parrish Community, Westminster Christian and George Jenkins. They salvaged a win with a 6-5 W in eight innings over Forest, then returned home with a 12-2 romp over Beachside. Presley Brinkley (.436, 6 HR, 18 RBI) and Hailey Cunningham (.354, 4 HR, 19 RBI) lead the Knights. The Knights move ahead over Middleburg due to their recent head to head win over the Broncos.
6. (T6) Middleburg (10-5, Class 5A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Cornerstone Charter, Episcopal, Keystone Heights, Oakleaf, Trinity Catholic, West Nassau, Yulee.
Notable: The Broncos went 1-1 since our last Super 6, losing to Baker County (2-0) and then crushing Fletcher (11-0). Five losses are troublesome but only two (Baker County and Creekside) are their only local Ls. Kerra Clarida (.438), Mika Wesley (.429) and Emma Ward (.410) are leading Middleburg at the plate.
