JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars unveiled their first free-agency class under their brand-new regime on Wednesday afternoon, a nine-player group that’s lean on marquee names but one that Liam Coen hopes is big on production.

The headliners of the group come on each side of the ball, former Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis and ex-Ravens offensive lineman Patrick Mekari, shoring up weaknesses on a team that is coming off a 4-13 season and in the midst of a franchise-wide reset.
Jacksonville needed significant help on the defensive side of the ball after finishing last year ranked as one of the league’s worst teams. New coordinator Anthony Campanile got a starting player in Lewis, who is expected to play in the nickel corner slot.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said that Jacksonville made him the league’s highest-paid nickel corner. Jarrian Jones was in that spot last year, and it’s conceivable that Jones could play on the outside opposite Tyson Campbell while the Jaguars leave Jones on the inside. Lewis isn’t a big interception player (10 in his eight seasons), but he was solid in coverage, earning a 79 grade and ranking 14th out of 223 corners, according to Pro Football Focus.

Rapoport said Lewis’ deal is three years for $30 million, with $20 million guaranteed.
Mekari, 27, is perhaps the biggest addition for the Jaguars and quarterback Trevor Lawrence. His contract, which ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said is worth up to $40 million over three years, is a little under market value for a player who is still ascending. Brown started at right tackle for one of the league’s top offenses in Baltimore and projects as the starting right guard next to Anton Harrison.
Next to Mekari is ex-Buccaneers center Robert Hainsey, 26, who should be a Day 1 starter after the retirement of Mitch Morse. He ranked fourth among centers in pass blocking, according to Pro Football Focus, and 10th in run blocking.
Receiver Dyami Brown, 25, who has spent his entire four-year career with the Washington Commanders, is getting a one-year contract worth $10 million from the Jaguars. Brown is a bit of an enigma. He was a third-round pick in 2021 and topped out last year with career highs in catches (30) and yards (308).
That $10 million is a massive paycheck for a player who has averaged one touchdown catch a season, but Jacksonville will love Brown’s speed.
He’s likely a No. 3 receiver on the roster at this point behind Brian Thomas Jr. and Gabe Davis. The Jaguars will kick the tires on other free agent receivers, including the potentially released Cooper Kupp, and could spend an early draft pick on a wideout to pair with Thomas.
