Liam Coen finalizes Jaguars coaching staff with a few familiar names

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars have finalized head coach Liam Coen’s staff as he looks to rebuild the franchise.

Coen’s first staff has 174 seasons of collective experience, an average of 8.3 seasons per coach. The average age of the staff is 42 years old. Two of the notable hires Friday included passing game coordinator Shane Waldron and receivers coach Edgar Bennett.

The hirings of offensive coordinator Grant Udinski and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile had been previously announced.

Waldron spent half of 2024 as the Bears offensive coordinator before being fired. Prior to that, Waldron was the Seahawks OC from 2021-23. Spencer Whipple is another name to watch. He spent six seasons in the Cardinals system, most recently as the pass game specialist. He’ll serve as the quarterbacks coach with the Jaguars. John Van Dam is the offensive pass game specialist and spent the last six seasons in Tampa Bay, most recently as a passing game assistant.

Bennett is a name Jacksonville folks should know. He’s a local product who played at Lee High School under Corky Rogers before going on to Florida State. He’s spent 20 years in the NFL as a coach, including the final seven seasons with the Raiders.

“What I really like about this staff – and this really began to shape in the last few days – is that we already speak the same modern, NFL language,” Coen said. “We each have remarkably similar backgrounds, coaching influences and innovative offensive or defensive concepts. With this shared terminology, we can accelerate past the standard learning curve that most staffs face, and instead prioritize installations on offense, defense and special teams. I am excited to get started.”
