JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars are closing in on the hire of Liam Coen, with the Tampa Bay offensive coordinator prepared to spurn his former team to try and lead a turnaround of the franchise, according to multiple reports.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini said that Coen is expected to be named the next head coach, pending final negotiations.

This job search has been anything but normal for Jacksonville.
According to NFL on CBS reporter Jonathan Jones, Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Boselli is assisting in Jacksonville’s head coaching search. Boselli has had an interest in a front office role with the team that drafted him in 1995 for some time, but this is believed to be the first time he’s had a hand in any type of operations decision.

That news comes a day after the Jaguars and general manager Trent Baalke parted ways. Owner Shad Khan said in a statement that an immediate separation was needed and thanked Baalke for his work.
It was a 180 from what Khan said after he fired head coach Doug Pederson on Jan. 6. Khan said that he didn’t think that retaining Baalke made Jacksonville’s job less desirable. After 10 interviews, Jacksonville had seen candidates Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn take different jobs. Coen withdrew his name from consideration and was rumored to be heading back to Tampa Bay. But multiple reports said Coen slipped up to Jacksonville for his interview and didn’t return calls or messages from the Buccaneers during that time. That opened the door to more negotiations between Coen and the Jaguars.
