It is a move that sent shockwaves through Washington -- which, quite frankly, has already been rattled by waves of firings by President Donald Trump during his nearly seven months back in office.
The president fired the commissioner of labor statistics after weaker-than-expected jobs figures, saying, “We need accurate jobs numbers.”
Trump writing on social media: “She will be replaced with someone much more competent and qualified. Important numbers like this must be fair and accurate. They can’t be manipulated for political purposes.”
Max Stier, an attorney and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service, joined us on The Morning Show to break down the latest firing.
He said there is no sign the statistics were “rigged,” and the president is firing the messenger for political purposes. That, he says, is undermining the credibility of the U.S. government.
