President Donald Trump issued a series of pardons, some to those sentenced for financial crimes or for punishments the president thought were too harsh.
Among those granted pardons or clemency: a former New York congressman, a former Connecticut governor, a rapper known as “NBA YoungBoy,” and a onetime Army officer who flaunted safety measures during the coronavirus pandemic.
Trump also pardoned TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley of the reality show “Chrisley Knows Best.” They were convicted three years ago of evading taxes and defrauding banks of more than $30 million to support their luxurious lifestyle. Mr. Trump called their treatment “pretty harsh.”
Jeremy Rosenthal, a nationally renowned prosecuting and defense attorney and legal analyst, joined us on The Morning Show to break down the blitz of pardons and commutations that went to those who expressed political support or echoed the president in claiming they had been unfairly targeted.
The main question is, “Does what’s happening ultimately undermine the rule of law?”
