Analyst: Biden’s farewell address reveals deep reservations about handing presidency back to Trump

Four years ago, when he came into office President Joe Biden’s theme was restoring America’s soul.

Wednesday night in his farewell address from the Oval Office, the president’s tone was noticeably darker.

The man who was in federal politics for half a century warned of what he called a rising ultrawealthy oligarchy in America that threatens the nation’s democracy.

Biden urged Americans to defend U.S. institutions against “powerful forces trying to reshape pillars of society.”

News4JAX political analyst and head of the Jacksonville University Public Policy Institute Rick Mullaney joined us on The Morning Show to discuss the farewell address.

Mullaney noted farewell addresses typically tout accomplishments and express confidence in the future.

He sees this speech as a sign that Biden has deep reservations about handing the presidency back to Donald Trump, a man Biden once warned was about to sacrifice democracy to attain power.
