JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A federal judge on Thursday temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order denying US citizenship to the children of parents living in the country illegally. The judge called it “blatantly unconstitutional.” It is the first hearing in a multi-state effort challenging the order.
President Trump issued the executive order on his first day in office. His directive applies not only to the children of undocumented people but also to the children of a vast group of immigrants who are lawfully in the country.
That includes visa holders who’ve lived here for years.
Renata Castro, founder of “USA4All,” a Florida-based immigration law firm joined News4JAX anchor Bruce Hamilton. They discussed the issue, which she said is rooted in the plain text and original meaning of the 14th Amendment, enshrined in well over a century of precedent and practice.
