JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Set against New York City’s high-pressure nightlife, the new Netflix series Black Rabbit promises a darker look at the city than the bright lights and Broadway glamour audiences usually see on screen.
“The most exciting part about the world we dive into in Black Rabbit is that it’s the world we don’t often get to see,” actor Forrest Weber said. “We kind of dive deep into an underground, grimier, scuzzier world of New York that often has a bigger say in how things are run than we realize.”
At its heart, Black Rabbit tells the story of two brothers — Jake (Jude Law), a charismatic lounge owner, and Vince (Jason Bateman), whose return to the business threatens to unravel it all. Their relationship drives the tension between ambition and family loyalty.
“These two brothers are kind of opposites,” actor Troy Kostur explained. “One’s a successful business person, and the other one is really struggling with his life. They love each other, but when they work together, all of a sudden they’re mixed up in dirty business.”
The series also leans into layered characters, including complex villains. Kostur described the fun of portraying someone darker than themselves.
“I’m not a bad guy in real life, but it’s fun to dive into that character. What’s so brilliant about the writing is that there are relatable aspects to everybody. You might not root for a villain, but you understand them a little bit more.”
Without giving too much away, the cast teased that the season delivers a mix of high-stakes drama, thrillers, romance, and scandal.
“It’s all there for a purpose, and everything’s incredibly well thought out,” Weber said.
When asked about their real-life tastes away from the set, the cast revealed simpler cravings: a good steak, authentic Mexican food, or — true to New York — a classic slice of pizza.
And if they were to run a lounge like Black Rabbit themselves?
“I think we both know he’s the boss in our relationship,” Weber laughed. “And a lot of who he is comes from the way he’s just constantly trying to prove himself to his father.”
Black Rabbit is now available to stream on Netflix.
