JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Some Ribault High students and their family members took to social media over the weekend to complain after they say the students spent all day getting ready for a homecoming dance that never happened.
At least one post said a student showed up Saturday all dressed up with her hair and makeup done only to find no one at the school except a few other students who were all disappointed to learn the dance had been canceled.

The post said the cancellation had come “without a notice.”
But Ribault High’s principal said that wasn’t the case.
Principal Gregory Bostic said that while the school did celebrate homecoming at its Friday night football game, students were informed last week that the Saturday homecoming dance had been canceled.
Bostic said the students were alerted to the cancellation of the dance through the school’s daily public address announcements and were told at the school’s pep rally.
According to Bostic, the decision was made because fewer than 20 tickets were purchased for the dance.
“We understand how disappointing this news is for students who were looking forward to the event, and we share in that disappointment,” a Duval County Public Schools spokesperson said.
She added that the students who purchased tickets for the dance through GoFan.com were given a refund, as of 8:41 a.m. Monday.
