West Jacksonville church hosting job fair for people seeking a second chance

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For many people living paycheck to paycheck or with a criminal record, landing a job can feel impossible.

That’s why Normandy Park Baptist Church on Jacksonville’s Westside is stepping in to help.

The church is hosting “A Better Job Fair” on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and job seekers are encouraged to come interview-ready.

Pastor Troy Dixon said the job fair is focused on connecting people with employers who believe in second chances.

“Our job fair right now has about 18 different employers, and we’ve got half a dozen community partners, ministries, organizations, that will help them file resumes, prepare for job interviews, and things like that,” Dixon said.

The church has partnered with the nonprofit Better Together, which helps provide resources for families in need. This is the third year the church has hosted the job fair.

Dixon said the event is about more than just employment.

“We hold it every March and September. And we do it because we are a church. And of course, we’re concerned about spiritual needs,” he said.

The goal, he added, is to give people a second chance while also providing hope for the future.
