The governor emphasized the importance of supporting Second Amendment rights, criticizing Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried for her stance.
“She didn’t believe in the Second Amendment,” he said, highlighting the contrast with his administration’s policies.
DeSantis introduced Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins, a former Green Beret and Florida Senate member who championed constitutional carry legislation in the state.
Collins praised the governor’s leadership and the tax holiday’s impact on families who enjoy hunting, fishing, and shooting sports.
“When you talk about hunting, fishing, your Second Amendment rights, you want to buy a shotgun or rifle, a pistol, ammunition. It’s expensive, right? We know that we’re taking the taxes off the top, man. Absolutely incredible,” Collins said.
Olympic sport shooter Dania Vizzi also spoke about the benefits of the tax holiday for shooting sports families.
“Shooting sports are a family-oriented activity and something that I learned to love by watching my dad shoot. The exemption of sales tax on these items over the next four months will help so many Florida families, and hopefully some young, aspiring Olympians to participate in the sport that I and we all love so much,” she said.
The governor encouraged Floridians to take advantage of the tax-free period and enjoy outdoor activities.
“During our Second Amendment holiday, we are inviting you to exercise your rights at one of FWC’s public shooting sports ranges,” he said, listing several dates when range passes will be free, including Veterans Day.
