JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a 49-year-old man died on Thursday night after his mini-bike crashed into the back of a box truck on the city’s Northside.
Police said the crash took place just after 8 p.m. near Mays Street and 45th Street.

The mini-bike’s driver was headed eastbound on 45th Street when a box truck, which was headed westbound on the same roadway, made a turn and ended up in the path of the mini-bike, officials said.
The mini-bike crashed into the truck’s rear. The driver was taken to the hospital, where they later died, JSO said.
Police said the crash marked the 109th traffic fatality of 2025 and briefly shut down the roadway.
JSO said the mini-bike was an unlicensed vehicle and should not have been on the road, adding that the truck’s driver said they did not see the mini-bike enter their path.
The agency added that the mini-bike’s driver was not wearing a helmet and his vehicle did not have any headlights.
JSO also said that the mini-bike is different from an e-bike. An e-bike is powered by an electric battery, while a mini-bike has a gas-powered engine, a smaller frame, and wider wheels than a typical e-bike.
Mini-bikes cannot be licensed, nor can they be driven on roadways. They can only legally be driven on private property, JSO said.
