JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With only a few hours left to buy tickets for one of the largest Powerball jackpots in American history, News4JAX asked Jacksonville residents what they would do if they won the big prize on Monday night.
No one has matched all six numbers since May 31, allowing the jackpot to swell to $1.1 billion, which would be the fifth-largest prize in the game’s history.

On Monday morning, News4JAX visited a spot that’s considered one of the luckiest in Florida: the Shell gas station on Avenue B and Edgewood in Northwest Jacksonville.
“I hope it be lucky for me today,” LaNard Williams said.
So what would Jacksonville residents do if they won the $1.1 billion?
“I would help the homeless out, I would build something for the homeless people,” Sherria Horace said. “I would take trips. I would also have something for nursing homes because my mom is in a nursing home.”
A man, who did not share his name, told News4JAX he would “buy an island like Janet Jackson.”
Omari had a different response.
“I would just want to move out of Jacksonville,” he said.
Williams also said he would move out of Jacksonville if he were to win.
“Get out of Jacksonville, maybe travel the world, quit my job,” Williams said.
Payments would be spread over 30 years, or a winner could choose an immediate lump sum of an estimated $498.4 million, again before taxes.
