CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A 63-year-old man is in custody after shooting a firearm at the Clay Electric building and pointing his weapon at a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy Saturday, the agency said.

Assistant Chief of Patrol Chad Ricks said around 1 p.m., deputies heard a disturbance call regarding an armed man later identified as Mark Allan Gulden.

According to Cody Monroe, Assistant Chief of Police for the Orange Park Police Department, Gulden is accused of showing up to an auto glass business earlier in the day and showing a gun.

News4JAX spoke to an employee at the business who said he came to their front door with his gun and started yelling about the gym, then he went back to his truck and left. The employee said she went to the back of the store for her safety and called 911.

A deputy saw a car that matched the description of Gulden’s car in the parking lot at the Clay Electric building on Blanding Boulevard. When they started to approach it, Ricks said the 63-yeear-old got out and shot his weapon at the building and around the gates.

Ricks said they gave “several loud verbal commands” to put his gun down. CCSO said Gulden then pointed the gun in the direction of the deputy. A deputy then shot toward Gulden, who was not hit by the gunfire.

He then threw his gun on the ground toward the deputies, was tased and taken into custody without injuries.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. It’s unclear what Gulden will be charged with, but the sheriff’s office said charges are coming.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
