‘I was so scared’: Woman says teen who had been shot ran past her while she was holding her baby, asked for help

The teen was killed on King Street in the Lackawanna neighborhood

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A teenager was fatally shot Wednesday night on King Street, just south of West Beaver Street, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO said officers were called to the area of the Hollybrook Homes Apartments on King Street after reports of a shooting.

When they arrived just before 9 p.m., they found a victim in his late teens with gunshot wounds. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, where he died.

Investigators said that surveillance footage shows the possible shooter -- an older bald Black man in all black clothing -- running from the apartment complex in an unknown direction.

A woman who didn’t want to be identified described what she saw and heard.

“It was like boom, boom, boom,” she said. “I heard like five or six gunshots, and he was running past us, and he was like ‘somebody call 911 I just got shot,’ he runs past building 8 and ran to the steps. When he got to the top of the steps, he collapsed.”

The woman said she’d seen the teen in the complex before.

“He was a sweet kid, very sweet kid,”

She said the scariest part was having her baby in her hand as the teen ran by.

“I didn’t know what to do,” she said. “I didn’t know if I should run back to the car or get on the ground. I was so scared honestly. I didn’t know if to run back to the house...”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500, or you can reach out to CrimeStoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
