CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said an educational behavioral assistant at W.E. Cherry Elementary School was recently arrested for kicking a student three times after the child kicked her.
Pearl Gyamera, 47, who has worked with the school district since 2016, faces a charge of Child Abuse Without Great Harm, CCSO said.

On Tuesday morning, around 9:45 a.m., deputies say a student was working with his speech therapist when he began kicking his legs.
“Gyamera was the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Behavioral Assistant for the victim and tasked with calming him down during physical or emotional outbursts,” the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies say Gyamera intervened to calm the student down, but he ended up kicking her.
The sheriff’s office said she then kicked the student three times and asked him how it felt and if it hurt him.
The student was not injured.
The assistant was placed on administrative leave by the school district and had no prior disciplinary record ore this incident.
