Hines-Allen shared details about Wesley, his 7-year-old son’s battle with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), to inspire others affected by it.

“We’re here today really to express how thankful we are and getting that information and seeing this handsome boy now going back to school, getting the confidence again when we had to shave his hair that everything was going to be ok and it is part of the journey,” Hines-Allen said.

Their nonprofit foundation, Four One For All, will launch a season-long campaign called “Four One For Hope” in September that will give back to four cancer-focused non-profits each month of the NFL regular season. Money raised will go to Nemours Children’s, the American Cancer Society, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville and the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Hines-Allen said that for every sack the Jaguars defense gets, $410 will be donated to the foundation.

“I’m going to have those guys playing extra hard this year,” he said.

Wesley celebrated the end of his cancer treatment by ringing the bell at a private event at The Players Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
