Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash on San Pablo Road South

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle traveling north near San Pablo Road South, south of San Pablo Parkway early Saturday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO said the victim, a man in his mid-30s, appeared to have been walking or crossing the roadway.

The driver fled the scene, and JSO launched a traffic homicide investigation to determine the circumstances of the crash.

The victim died at the scene, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue said.

San Pablo Road South in the 3700 block is temporarily closed in both directions while detectives continue their work.

Crime and Safety Analyst Tom Hackney talked about how to lessen pedestrian and vehicle crashes and said people have to change how they act.

“There are some behaviors that pedestrians have led towards them being victims, like wearing dark clothing and crossing the street in the middle of the night and not at an intersection with a light,” Hackney said.

He added that there may be other driver distractions like being on the phone or eating.

JSO said this marks the 101st traffic fatality and the 20th pedestrian death in Jacksonville so far in 2025.

JSO is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information to call 630-0500 or contact First Coast Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS. Detectives are also reviewing nearby cameras for additional evidence.
