Middleburg man dies after driving through stop sign, crashing into pickup truck on Blanding Boulevard: FHP

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol said a 56-year-old man from Middleburg died Friday afternoon after he ran through a stop sign and crashed into a pickup truck on Blanding Boulevard in Clay County.

Troopers said the crash happened just before 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Blanding Boulevard and Azalea Ridge Boulevard.

According to the agency, the man was driving east on Azalea Ridge Boulevard and was approaching the intersection with Blanding when he “failed to stop” at the stop sign.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died, FHP said.

FHP added that the pickup truck’s driver received minor injuries and is cooperating with law enforcement.

In an update, FHP said all southbound lanes of Blanding Boulevard remain blocked, and drivers are asked to seek alternate routes and use caution in the area.

As of at least 9 p.m., the roadway was back open.
