The Army revealed that one of the soldiers Radford shot was his romantic partner. All are expected to recover.
“I am so proud of these six individuals for putting their own lives on the line to protect their fellow soldiers,” Carter said. “While this devastating event should have never occurred, and we continue to pray for those wounded, it is encouraging that we have heroes in the First Congressional District who run towards danger when tragedy strikes. Thank you for your bravery and service to your country.”
Radford, a Jacksonville native, was charged with six counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault and domestic violence. The sixth count references a soldier he shot at and missed.
Under military law, attempted murder carries a potential penalty of life imprisonment.
