ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Creekside High School reopened Tuesday morning after deputies cleared the campus following a bomb threat, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said.
Around 9 a.m., SJSO said it was investigating a bomb threat toward Creekside High School and conducted a search of the school.
About an hour later, SJSO said “nothing concerning was located,” and announced that students and staff were able to return to campus.
Parents were told that buses that were holding students offsite, as deputies worked on clearing the campus, would be bringing students back to the school to attend classes for the rest of the day.
The bomb threat came just a day after students returned to the classrooms for the 2025-2026 school year.
“Unfortunately, the more it spreads on social media, the more it’s kind of, I think, a thing to do. And it’s terrifying to these children,” said resident Susanna LaPlante.
“It gives me a lot of compassion to see what that solution is going to be, because I don’t believe that the present has to dictate our future,” said resident Mary Webb. “Love our law enforcement, and I’m so thankful for them. And I feel like this is a beautiful area to raise kids. I really do.”
News4JAX Crime and Safety Analyst Tom Hackney said local entities are working to stop threats like what happened Tuesday.
“These charges don’t get dropped easily,” he said. “I mean, the state attorney is very, very vocal about prosecuting these. The sheriff’s offices all through South Georgia and North Florida are all standing in unison about these are, these are bad things that happen, and we’re going to investigate them and we’re going to prosecute them. And here we are, day two of school. Had one over the weekend and had one yesterday. Clay County and Duval County.”
Just a few days ago, the 7th Circuit State Attorney’s Office, which includes St. Johns County, put out a public service announcement, reminding families that even fake threats can have real consequences.
And the Clay County Sheriff’s office told us, “Our students’ safety is our top priority. The CCSO, the School District, and the State Attorney’s Office for the 4th Circuit all have a zero-tolerance policy towards school violence and school threats.”
Residents are just happy no one was hurt and that action was taken quickly.
The St. John County Sheriff’s Office said that a motive and who was involved is still unclear, as this is an ongoing investigation.
