GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A dozen people gathered Saturday morning in Gainesville to protest Alligator Alcatraz, as reported by WCJB in Gainesville.
The people represented imprisoned immigrants and were even caged inside what organizers called the “cage of shame.”

The project manager said this is a testimony to the cruelty the country is inflicting on the immigrant population.
One man said he used to be an immigration asylum officer in Miami and has interviewed people who escaped from their countries. He said he sees these people being abused by the government.
“I’d like to see the abolition of ICE. They are a threat to human rights and civil liberties. It’s just a terrible situation,” James Sullivan said.
Attendees said they disagree with Governor Ron DeSantis’ plan to build an immigration detention center at Camp Blanding. Every ten minutes, everyone was asked to be silent to reflect on what the thousands of people who are locked up are going through.
