Residents have complained about foul odors coming from the facility

St. Augustine residents file lawsuit against Indianhead Biomass Services (WJXT)

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection will hold a public meeting for St. Johns County residents concerned about the persistent foul odor caused by the Indianhead Biomass.

The meeting will cover details regarding the domestic wastewater permit renewal application submitted by Indianhead Biomass for the continued operation of its biosolids management facility located on County Road 214 in St. Augustine.

Last month, six residents filed a lawsuit claiming the facility emits “noxious and foul odors” that are difficult to ignore.

Residents have the opportunity to voice their concerns to officials before all comments are received and considered to make a final decision on the permit application.

In July, Indianhead Biomass officials held a class to explain its operational process.

Residents have expressed that this has been an ongoing issue for three years.

The meeting will be held at R.J. Murray Middle School on 150 North Holmes Boulevard, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Public comment will remain open until Thursday, Aug. 14.
