Sen. Rick Scott, Sheriff T.K. Waters encourage hurricane preparedness in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida Senator Rick Scott joined state, local, and emergency management officials in Jacksonville on Wednesday for a press conference urging Floridians to stay prepared with hurricane season underway.

Scott said August is typically the month when hurricanes start to become a real threat.

He wants residents to have their emergency kits and evacuation plans ready to keep themselves and their families safe.

Ahead of hurricane season, Sen. Scott made stops in Naples, Miami, Clearwater, Sanford, and Pensacola, urging Floridians to prepare for severe weather.

Congressman Aaron Bean, Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters were among those in attendance at Wednesday’s news conference, which took place at JAXPORT Cruise Terminal.

Waters encouraged Jacksonville residents to go to JaxReady.com to learn more.

“Be ready now and stay ready in the future so you don’t have to get ready when a storm is already on the horizon. Preparedness prevents catastrophe,” Waters said.
