JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a man was shot in the chest on Monday when he attempted to break into someone’s home on the city’s Westside.
According to JSO, the incident happened just after noon on Cahoon Road when the suspect attempted to burglarize a home and was confronted by the property’s owner, who is believed to have shot the suspect before informing police of the situation.

Moments after officers arrived at the scene and spoke to the homeowner, they said they were notified that someone with a gunshot wound had walked into a local urgent care.
Police said JFRD located the suspect, a man in his mid-30s, and took him to a local hospital, where he was in critical condition. JSO said the man is now in stable condition.
JSO added that the incident appeared to be isolated, the suspect was detained, and there is no further threat to the public.
“Crime Scene Unit Detectives are processing the crime scene. Robbery and Violent Crime Detectives responded and are actively canvassing for witnesses and video,” the agency said.
Police also said it is undetermined whether the homeowner will receive any charges for his role.
