One dead, five taken to hospital after crash involving two SUVs on SR 9B near E-Town Parkway, troopers say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said one person died and multiple people were taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon following a crash on the city’s Southside.

According to the report conducted by the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 12:15 p.m. on State Road 9B and E-Town Parkway, and involved two SUVs.

One SUV was driven by a 34-year-old woman, who had four passengers in her car, including a 29-year-old woman, a 14-year-old boy, a 15-year-old girl, and a 5-year-old girl. Each person in the vehicle was from Mooresville, North Carolina.

The other SUV was driven by a 40-year-old woman from St. Augustine.

FHP said the SUV with multiple passengers “sideswiped” the second SUV, which caused both vehicles to lose control before coming to a rest on the right shoulder of the roadway.

The 29-year-old passenger died at the scene, troopers said. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

All other members of both cars were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Around 12:45 p.m., the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the crash will reduce traffic in the area to one lane for “a substantial amount of time.”

According to FHP’s Live Traffic Crash and Road Condition Report, around 5:30 p.m., all lanes were reopened.
