CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A detention deputy with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was arrested on Friday following a domestic disturbance at a Green Cove Springs home.
Deputies responded to the scene and spoke with the victim, who said a verbal argument with her husband, Deputy Lionel Stewart, escalated into a physical confrontation.

CCSO said during the incident, Stewart forcefully grabbed a toolbox from the victim’s hand, causing two cuts on her hand that were bleeding when law enforcement arrived.
According to the sheriff’s office, a child inside the home witnessed the incident, prompting the Department of Children and Families to be contacted.
Stewart, who has been with the sheriff’s office since January 2025, was arrested without incident and taken to the Clay County Jail. He has been placed on administrative leave pending termination.
The sheriff’s office emphasized that domestic violence is unacceptable, especially when committed by those in positions of trust and leadership.
