DeSantis calls for some flags to be flown at half-staff to honor Hulk Hogan, says wrestler was a ‘true Floridian’

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday called for flags at multiple buildings throughout the state to be flown at half-staff to honor Hulk Hogan, who the governor referred to as a “true Floridian through and through.”

“To commemorate his life and legacy, I hereby declare August, 1, 2025 as ‘Hulk Hogan Day in Florida,’” a statement posted to social media by DeSantis read.

He concluded his post by saying, “Rest in peace, brother,” a nod to the iconic wrestler’s frequent use of the word “brother.”

The order calls for flags at the State Capitol, and at all local and state buildngs, installations, and grounds throughout Pinellas County.

Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bollea, died from a heart attack in Clearwater, Florida, on July 24.

“His larger-than-life personality will be missed, as the ‘Hulkster’ was an icon for many who grew up in the 80s and 90s, as well as today,“ DeSantis said. ”He was a true Floridian through and through.”
