ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – An armed man who was barricaded in an apartment was shot and killed Tuesday by Alachua County deputies after he fired multiple shots at them, according to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement officials were at an Alachua County apartment in the area of Northwest 9th Street at West University to serve a felony narcotics warrant to the suspect.

ACSO said the man barricaded himself inside the apartment while negotiators attempted to de-escalate the situation.

Deputies shot and killed the man after he fired additional rounds at them.

No one else was injured in the incident.

ASCO said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was contacted to investigate the use of deadly force.

While a UF building is one block away from the scene, officials said there was no threat to the campus.

People are asked to avoid the area of Northwest 9th Street at West University Avenue from 8th Street to 11th Street.
