Questions remain after dozens of DCPS documents with students’ names found littered across Jacksonville roadway

News4JAX was able to read four different student names on the discovered documents. One including a bus referral from 2023 that lists a student’s name, school, and offense for which the referral was administered.

Another paper was titled “School Discipline Referral Form.”

We also spoke with the man who found them scattered along an intersection Wednesday morning.

“I saw all of this debris just scattered from the fence line over to the parking lot,” said Zach Holloway, who adds that he contacted the school system before 9 a.m. on Wednesday to have someone come pick up the documents, just in case it had sensitive information on it.

However, he noted that most of the documents weren’t removed until at least five hours later, saying it’s “concerning” that these documents were found the way they were.

“My son is not in school anymore, but I would be upset if his records were out here,” Holloway said. “This is not stuff for the public, it’s to be protected.”

News4JAX contacted DCPS after learning of the scattered documents and asked the following questions:

  1. How did this happen?
  2. Who’s in charge of the documents?
  3. What is the process of discarding old documents?
  4. What type of information was in each file?

DCPS didn’t answer any of the questions listed above, but did tell News4JAX that it is currently investigating the matter, adding that if anyone is in possession of any district documents or files, those should be returned to the district.
