Driving down East Bay Street toward the Jaguars’ stadium, it’s hard to miss the progress on the Four Seasons Luxury Hotel. According to Mike Weinstein, the mayor’s chief of staff, this project, along with others, will enhance Jacksonville’s reputation and attract further investment.

“It’s like when we got the Jaguars, it gave credibility for others to start looking at Jacksonville,” Weinstein noted. “And Four Seasons has sort of the same impact. It’s not a monster hotel. It’s 176 rooms, but it’s 20-something residential as well. So, it’s a big building with lots of amenities.”

The Riverfront Plaza project, located on the site of the former Jacksonville Landing, is nearing the completion of its first phase. It includes event spaces, a riverwalk, and connections to the performing arts center.

If you happen to stroll by the area, you’ll notice the unique concrete structure with the name “Riverfront Plaza.” Phase 2 is expected to begin next year, promising further enhancements.

Additionally, the Shipyards West Park project will offer a stunning waterfront park for public enjoyment, while the Metropolitan Park revitalization is also in the works.

“You have Metro Park coming back, those of us that have been here a long time and did concerts on the river,” Weinstein said. “You’re going to have two parks there, you’re going to have the west side, basically Shipyard Park, Metro Park, all that’s happening within the stadium.”

Efforts to redevelop the historic Laura Street Trio are ongoing, with foreclosure proceedings potentially opening new opportunities.

The stadium renovation, expected to be completed by 2028, is another key project that will contribute to downtown’s transformation. Weinstein expressed optimism about Jacksonville’s future, suggesting the city could once again compete to host the Super Bowl.

“It’s quite a formidable task, but we’re on the move,” Weinstein said.

As downtown Jacksonville undergoes a remarkable transformation, these construction projects are set to redefine the city’s skyline and enhance its cultural and economic vitality.
