JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Cooling centers in Jacksonville are opening due to the high temperatures forecasted over the coming days.

People can check in to the City Rescue Mission’s New Life Inn at 234 West State Street on Saturday, and any additional days the temperature will be 95 degrees or hotter at 11 a.m.
All guests will get a hot meal and access to showers and clean clothes.
“As the summer gets even hotter, we will provide cooling centers open to the public,” Paul Stasi, CRM Executive Director, said. “We want to make sure that our neighbors in need have cool shelter and a place to rest.”

All cooling centers are available on Friday, Saturday, and Monday. Two cooling centers and pools are opening on Sunday.
Monday-Saturday Locations: For extreme heat events on Mondays through Saturdays, Cooling Centers will be activated at various City of Jacksonville (COJ) facilities under normal hours of operation. These facilities will be open regardless of whether activation thresholds are met, and they include:
- All COJ Public Libraries (21 libraries): Accessible and air-conditioned spaces.
- All COJ Community Centers (20 centers): Available in multiple neighborhoods.
- All COJ Pools (29 pools) and Splash Pads (16 pads): Provide immediate cooling relief.
Sunday and Holiday Locations: For extreme heat events on Sundays and holidays, two main Cooling Centers will be specifically activated from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.:
- Main Library (303 N. Laura St.)
- Legends Center (5130 Soutel Dr.)
- All COJ Pools (29 pools) and Splash Pads (16 pads) are open on Sundays through Labor Day weekend
Free transportation to the city of Jacksonville cooling centers will be provided by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority. Residents must tell the driver that they are heading to or from a cooling center to receive the free service.
