Phase one lays the groundwork for a bigger Phase two expansion, which will add 16 new homes and more services for vulnerable families.
Currently, the coalition provides housing for 18 families on campus—31 adults and 42 children living in cottages. Another 11 people live in off-campus housing, including one veteran and seven seniors.
The ESHC housing campus covers five acres and offers 20 single-family homes for homeless families with minor children.
The organization said four mothers are working toward their GEDs, three families have qualified for homeownership, and 94% of the families are employed.
Organizers said many families end up homeless because of low wages, rising rent, unexpected bills, and living paycheck to paycheck.
