The critically acclaimed mystery-comedy series Poker Face is returning for its season 2 finale on Peacock, and actor Simon Helberg said viewers can expect plenty of action, laughs, and surprises.
Helberg reprises his role as FBI Agent Luca Clark, opposite Natasha Lyonne’s Charlie, a woman with an uncanny ability to tell when someone is lying. The series, created by Rian Johnson, follows Charlie as she travels across the country solving strange crimes in a throwback “mystery of the week” format.
“It’s just a fantastic ride—you can binge it, you can watch it one at a time, backwards, whichever way you want. It kind of works in any configuration,” Helberg said.
This season featured an all-star lineup of guest appearances, including Cynthia Erivo, John Mulaney, Awkwafina, Method Man and more. Helberg said the show’s playful tone and unique style make it unlike anything he’s done before.
“Luca is, is, I think he’s just this really earnest do-gooder who, again, just fumbled up the ladder, really, with the help of Charlie,” Helberg explained. “So he’s got a little impostor syndrome, and I think he’s one of the rare, the rare breeds, who, who somebody who actually wants to do good and has it, has a moral compass, and it’s just, it’s really fun because he’s strong and wrong a lot, and he and Charlie kind of need each other to survive. And so there’s there. He’s got a swagger to him, and it’s, it’s fun to get to play, you know, an actual, an FBI agent, in all of these car chases and explosions and stunts. And, you know, I feel like Lucas probably watched Point Break a few times, and he’s aware of what kind of what, what happens when you lower your sunglasses and say something cool to the girl and then put them back up. So, so there’s an awareness to him, and he’s funny, but there’s also, like, a yeah, there’s a little bit of swagger.”
As for the finale, Helberg teased “wild hot pursuits” and the reveal of an assassin known as The Iguana, promising fans an action-packed ending to the series.
