Inmate, 30, dies in JSO custody after suffering medical emergency ahead of court appearance

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man who was in the custody of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office died in a hospital on Wednesday after experiencing a medical emergency, according to JSO.

JSO said Jaymin Winn, 30, began showing signs of medical distress in the early morning hours of Wednesday while “transitioning” for a scheduled court appearance.

After being provided medical aid by on-scene corrections employees and medical staff, JSO said Winn was relocated to the jail’s medical clinic, and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue was called.

Winn was then transported to a local hospital, where he died a few hours later, according to JSO.

JSO Cold Case Unit detectives are investigating Winn’s death with the help of the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Winn’s cause of death has not been revealed, pending the results of the autopsy.

According to JSO, Winn was booked into the Duval County jail on Monday on drug-related charges.
