According to JSO, 22-year-old Mikaya Williams stopped and tried to lure the boy, who was selling water on the side of the road in the area on June 27.
“When he refused, she got out, pulled the child into her vehicle, and drove off,” JSO said.
A family friend of the victim who was nearby was able to witness the kidnapping as it happened and quickly acted, following the suspect’s vehicle to West 45th Street, police said.
When Williams stopped her car, JSO said the witness managed to remove the child from the car and blocked Williams’ vehicle from leaving the scene until officers arrived.
“Williams was arrested on scene, and the child was safely returned to his family,” police said. “Special Assault Unit detectives took over the investigation and arrested Williams for Kidnapping, a first-degree felony.”
JSO thanked the witness for their heroic act, saying that their efforts saved the child from a dangerous situation.
