Jury finds Middleburg man guilty of murdering his father, stabbing him more than 20 times

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A Clay County jury found a man guilty of murder in the stabbing death of his father in 2020, according to the State Attorney’s Office.

On June 18, a jury found Danny Dustin, 43, guilty of second-degree murder with a weapon.

On Monday afternoon, Dustin was sentenced to life in Florida State Prison.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on March 6, 2020, Clay County deputies received a 911 call from Dustin, who was asking for help at his home on Wren Lane. When they arrived, deputies heard Dustin calling for help from inside.

Deputies entered the home and found Dustin’s father stabbed to death.

According to officials, Dustin’s father suffered more than 20 stab wounds, including 13 stab wounds to the head and neck.

Dustin — who was found unresponsive, foaming at the mouth and covered in blood — was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

According to his arrest report, detectives found three knives believed to have been used during a fight between Dustin and his father.

The investigation revealed Dustin recorded himself while intoxicated and arguing with his father on Facebook Live that afternoon.

The scene indicated that his father was sitting in his recliner when Dustin began stabbing him.

Two days after the fatal stabbing, Dustin was booked into the Clay County jail.

Dustin was no stranger to the Clay County criminal court.

Court records show that in 2018, he was convicted of burglary and battery. Following that conviction, he was sentenced to two years in prison. In 2015, he was convicted of battery and battery on a first responder. Following that conviction, he was sentenced to prison.

In 2013, he was convicted of aggravated battery – the same year and the year before he was convicted on drug charges. In 2008, he was arrested on battery and domestic battery charges but not convicted on those charges.
